Repeat Prescriptions

Why not register for online services!

Please ask at reception for an online registration form or alternatively download it from the link below. You will be required to bring ID documentation with you.

Online access also allows you to order repeat medication.

There is also a free SystmOnline app for iPhones, iPads and other Apple devices running the iOS operating system.

Ordering repeat prescriptions

Patients on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways.

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using the GP online system – SystmOnline

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • bring the paper form to the surgery – drop your repeat slip in the box provided at the entrance to reception with the required items clearly marked
  • post it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you.

We do not take repeat prescription requests via email or over the phone unless you are housebound or, for some other reason, unable to get to the surgery. If an arrangement has been made for you to telephone the surgery with your request, please call after 11:00 am.

Collecting your prescription

Please bear in mind that it takes a minimum of 2 working days to process a prescription request, please monitor your medication supply and order a repeat medication in good time.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

If you wish to have your medications delivered, please contact your chosen pharmacy to arrange this service, you will need to arrange for the pharmacy to collect the prescription 2 days after your request.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Medication reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to attend a medication annually to review their medication.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
